Seafolly, bikini, sporty chic, Gigi Hadid
Seafolly of Australia mixes sport and fashion in this two piece worn by Gigi Hadid.

Sporty Chic

We flagged this trend in 2015 and this year it has absolutely blown up.

Every designer and manufacturer is showing fashionable swimwear that you can move in. Backs are secure, necklines aren’t plunging; these suits are great for paddle boarding or just chasing after the kids. The best part? You’re not giving up on fashion, they are as beautiful as suits made for lounging.

High necklines

Another trend that we called last year is high necklines. (Such are the benefits of working with fashion forward designers)! Not everyone can wear this style, but it does create additional space to place a print that pulls the attention up and away from your hips. We especially like suits where the high neckline is broken up with mesh. It’s the best of both worlds!

swimwear trends 2016, Nanette Lepore, bohemian prints

Bohemian Prints

Swimsuits with bohemian, ethnic inspired prints are flying off the rack! These suits are cheerful, summery and reminiscent of a simpler (groovier) time.

Nanette Lepore has been working with these prints for years and she’s still one of the best. This year most swimwear manufacturers have caught on to this look.

Cut outs

We’re seeing a lot of swimwear with cut outs. In a two piece you’ll find multiple wide straps or peekaboo holes on the side of the bottom. In one piece swimsuits, big cut outs at the side of the suit help define the waist.

Tori Praver, bikini trends 2016, high waist bikini

High waisted bikini bottoms

The high waisted trend has gone in two directions. The retro high waisted style is mostly seen on younger suits, often with quite a cheeky bottom. For more mainstream tastes, the high waist have come down in height. They’re high enough to hide a tummy, but not so high that they give an exaggerated retro silhouette.

Trends that have died

Fringe – finally!

Ruffles – some manufacturers are hanging on, but it’s time to give this one up!

And the cutting edge designers are doing …

Laser cuts – See our store for great examples from Jets and Lise Charmel

Faux Leather – Looks great but doesn’t always stretch as well as traditional materials

These aren’t trends, they’re the new normal

Rash guards – for looks and protection

One pieces are back!
